Intro
Link building is a dynamic skill that needs to be updated with new skills and techniques. It is an important part of your SEO efforts and is extremely important if you are competing against established businesses.
It does not matter which industry you are in, backlinks play a major role in improving your search engine visibility.
According to SearchEngineWatch, the first position gets 33% of the total clicks, so higher rankings mean more conversions.
After you have learned how to start a blog and have completed setting up your blog, you need to put some content on your blog that people want to read, not just what you want to share.
After all, link building using proper strategies is extremely important, and if your blog link profile is unrealistic, Google might penalise you and even deindex your website, so implementing the right strategies is important.
Different types of backlinks diversify your link-building profile and build the overall authority of your website.

So are you searching for the right link-building techniques?
Here are 15 link-building techniques that are still effective in 2022 and are not saturated.
1. Theme Showcase Link Building
This strategy of getting links with theme design showcases is new and nobody in the industry is talking about it right now. This link-building technique is the easiest one of all the strategies below, and the best thing is it’s completely free.
So, in this technique, you design your website using popular themes or page builders and then showcase your website theme developer's website or any third-party website.
The Elementor page builder showcases professionally made websites on their website every month. To get featured on official theme landing pages, your website must be unique and professionally made, and it must stand out from the crowd. Take an example of an elementor's theme showcase contest held every month.
Sometimes it's hard to get featured on official blogs, but there are third-party blogs featuring blog showcases or theme examples.

To find such blogs to pitch your website as a showcase via email, you can use a keyword modifier like
- intitle: Elementor Theme Examples
- Generatepress theme examples
This type of link building is extremely successful as you can start this even before putting any type of content on your website and get that initial link velocity for your website.
2. Startup Submission Directories
Inspired by blog submissions, startup submission directories are reputed and cannot be spammed as they only list real startups and registered businesses.
A few examples of such startup directories are Product Hunt, The Startup Pitch, Launching Next, etc.
These startup submission directories' links can also be made even before making content on your startup website.
Most of these links are nofollow, but they are worth getting to get initial exposure for your blog. It is better to get such links only from reputed sources and take care of link velocity by distributing your links over some time.
3. Get Interviewed
The next type of link to create on a new startup website or blog is interview links. A lot of blogs online love to feature the founders of new startups with great products.
You don’t need to be an industry expert to get an interview. You just showcase your blog achievements or your unique product and pitch blog owners for an interview.
Most likely, if they like your product, they will invite you for an interview on their blog or podcast.
The real success of this link-building technique is your idea of a startup or if you have an exciting story to share.
4. Create Industry Statistics
This technique has recently been very popular, and a lot of bloggers have been using it. For this particular technique, you need a lot of resources to gather all the industry-specific facts and statistics for your blog content.
Content creators are always in search of industry-specific research, and even journalists from top sources are looking for such data.
What is more important is to pitch the blog owners to link to your content. Statistics blog posts are kind of linkable assets if you rank them on Google. They will attract a lot of backlinks over time with even manual outreach.
These link-building techniques require initial hard work to create an asset that stands out from the crowd and that serves as a hub for building quality backlinks.
5. Case Studies
Case studies are natural backlink magnets and can be a goldmine if done properly. The only requirement for such content is that you need to have a solid case study with proven data that can help others define their approach toward that topic.
In the digital marketing industry, for example, SEO case studies are highly linkable assets that content writers love to cite in their blogs.
Try to experiment with industry myths and gather proven data and do proper research. These assets will attract links over time.
Case studies with significant data and research also have the chance to get featured in big media blogs like Forbes, Inc., etc.
6. Skyscraper Technique
This is one of my favourite techniques as it increases your chance of getting a link, but it is time-consuming as compared to other link-building methods.
The skyscraper technique was invented by Brian Dean of Backlinko and is the most effective link-building technique to date.
This technique has 3 major steps.
- Find Content That’s Linkworthy
- Create Better In-Depth Content
- Reach Out For Link Replacement
This type of linkable asset cannot be another “Best X For Y Article,” but for the skyscraper technique, you need a linkable asset that no one can resist saying no to.
7. Brand Mentions
Brand mentions are an excellent way of getting quality backlinks from the websites that are already talking about your business online.
But the real question in your mind is: how do we track our brand mentions and do we need to buy another paid tool for this?
The answer is no. You can do it completely for free using a free tool called **Google Alerts. **You can set alerts for your brand name. So whenever someone online writes your brand name and Google finds that, you will get an email alert, and then you can simply contact the original blog owner to replace your brand name with your link.
This method is easy and free and takes only a few minutes to set up. Then you will get link prospects right in your mailbox.
Here is how you can set this up.
- Go to https://www.google.com/alerts
- Now enter your brand name
- Create an alert
Now you will get email alerts for all brand mentions for this term in your email. Try to pitch the blog owners for a link back to your blog.
8. Broken Link Building
Broken link building is also one of the easiest types of link building, but here you are not spamming the blog owners for just a link back, but you are also providing them value by helping them remove a dead link from their blog.
For this, you might need a tool like Ahrefs, and search for the domain you want to get a link from, and then in the backlinks section, hit the broken links section.
Create a resonating piece of content related to the broken URL and then contact the blog owner for a link replacement via outreach.
If you send an outreach email that is 500 words long, your email might get deleted because no one has time to read an email that long.
So, keep it short and simple and modify it to what works best for you.
9. Guest posts
Guest posts are still useful, but you don’t need to overdo them. A few guest posts on reputed blogs are more than enough. Thousands of them give no value to the reader.
If you are going to write a guest post, just try to make it the best guest post you have ever written.
Still confused about this technique?
Here are some of the benefits of guest blogging.
If the reader likes the content, then they might visit your blog too. So keep your guest post goals small by number but large by quality.
Simply use these keyword modifiers to find guest posting opportunities in your industry.
- Keyword “Write For Us”
- Keyword “Guest Post”
10. Guestographics Method
The Guestographics method has been very popular recently, and by this method, you can pitch the blog authors who have already written awesome blogs.
asking them to create an infographic on their behalf and asking for a link back in return.
You can even post infographics on your blog and then ask other content writers to use the infographic for their content in return for a backlink.
You can also submit them to infographic websites, which also give you a link to your blog.
11. Resource pages
Resource pages are a passive way of earning backlinks. In this method, you create a how-to guide to solve a particular problem.
These kinds of pages attract links naturally. An example of such resources is
- How to fix the "Database not found" error on WordPress
- How to hide the WordPress themes and plugins of your WordPress website
A large website that has good authority does not write on these topics in general, so they link back to the best resources on that problem.
These are naturally incoming links that increase your authority over time.
12. HARO-Help A Reporter Out Outreach
HARO is an awesome way to get quality backlinks by submitting small expert responses to the big journalists who are looking for help with their writing.
To submit your response to HARO, you need to sign up at HelpAReporter as a source. Then you will get 3 emails like this every day.
You just need to submit your response, and if your answer is accepted, you will get a link back to your blog.
To explain this in detail, Passive Income Geek has an awesome guide explaining this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-ttXGBVYCQ&t=475s
The biggest success rate is for those responses that are ready to copy and paste, and journalists don’t have to edit much. Your response must be original and copy-paste ready to save time.
There are a number of HARO alternatives to get more mentions and links.
13. Quora Response
Quora is just a question-answer website, right?
Wrong, it is a goldmine not in the perspective of the link but also for free traffic
You not only get links but you will get quality and targeted traffic to your blog. My first affiliate conversion was also from a quora answer. You do not underestimate Quora when you are building links to your blog.
Take some time to answer a few questions about a topic and enter your blog URL.
Pro Tip - You can also use Web Mentions as your ranking strategy, instead of adding your link on these websites just write the name of your blog and do not convert it into a hyperlink, e.g. Read More In-Depth Guide On Ranktracker’s Blog
Interested people will search for your blog on Google and then click on your link, which leads to an increase in CTR and higher rankings.
14. Internal Linking & Breadcrumbs
Internal linking is a completely underrated topic, but it is the most important in today's SEO campaigns.
Most of the SEO GURUS focus more on getting backlinks from this or that blog, but they forget about their blog.
Internal linking for a new website is easy with a few blog posts, but for large blogs having thousands of blog posts, internal linking becomes a headache.
Internal linking can be automated with the help of a very useful plugin called Link Whisper or Internal Link Juicer.
When writing a blog post, you can set which keywords will link to a particular blog post, and with Link Whisper Pro, you have full control of adding internal links in just a few minutes and also the flexibility to edit the anchor text.
The breadcrumbs are also very important to define your blog structure, and I have personally seen good results from them.
That's why implementing breadcrumbs on your blog is a good idea.
If your blog theme does not support them natively, you can implement them with the help of any SEO plugin like RankMath or Yoast.
15. Event Sponsoring
This is an advanced level technique and might require a good investment as well.
You can get quality backlinks by sponsoring events in your industry to get real industry-specific backlinks.

However, finding such opportunities is easy with a few Google keyword modifiers like
- Inurl: events + “sponsors”
- site:[Target Site] + “Donations”
You probably need a lot of budget for these kinds of links but this kind of technique is useful if you are trying to match your competitor’s backlink profile.
Conclusion
